All wooden parts are white ash sourced from a single tree on a neighboring farm. All parts are hand split from fresh logs using wedges and axes. The posts, rung and seat rails are turned on a lathe and finished by hand with a spokeshave. The back posts and back slats are steam bent. The mortise and tenon joinery is assembled utilizing traditional moisture differentials between parts to create mechanically locked permanent joints. Hide glue is used at assembly ensuring easier repairs for future generations. The black color is wiped on Japanese Sumi ink sealed with thin coats of shellac. Additional layers of a custom blend oil varnish finish are hand rubbed. The seat is hand woven using the traditional "envelope" pattern weave. Seat material is authentic Danish paper cord sourced from the original manufacturer, Randers Reb, in Denmark, and is the same material used on many Danish design classics.
